Creative Schools 2025: The Story of the Wolfhound and the Robin

This year, our school proudly participated in the Creative Schools programme, an Arts Council of Ireland initiative that places creativity and the arts at the heart of school life.

As part of our project, pupils created a story about a wolfhound and a robin — two unlikely friends whose story reflects the values we promote in our school: friendship, kindness, inclusivity, and community.

To bring this story to life, we worked with local artist Vauney Strahan, who designed and painted a beautiful mural on the doors on the far side of our school yard. The mural celebrates the themes of kindness, friendship, and inclusivity at the heart of our school community.

Alongside this, our pupils contributed by creating a ‘robin’s nest’ made up of kind phrases they wrote themselves, as well as decorating stones and rocks with artwork and positive messages. These were carefully placed at the mural site, adding a personal and meaningful touch from every class in the school.

To mark the completion of the project, a video was created to capture the story, the artwork, and the wonderful creativity and teamwork of our pupils.

We are immensely proud of this project, the message it carries, and the creativity of all involved. A huge thank you to Vauney Strahan, the Arts Council, Paula Mongey and the Creative Schools initiative for helping to bring this special project to life.
