Green Schools
The Green Schools committee in Scoil Íosagáin work very hard in maintaining the standards in line with the Green Schools Programme.
There are two members from each class who have the important responsibility in attending committee meetings, bringing forward issues and ideas concerning the environment. They are also responsible for reporting back to their classes what steps we are taking as a school in making our environment a better place.
Thank you to the boys on our committee who have worked so hard with their classes in achieving our latest flag, the Biodiversity Green Schools Flag. Lots of art work and classroom based learning took place this year, we were even picked to have a guest speaker in to tell us all the things we could be doing to help with biodiversity.
Our motto for Biodiversity is:
Keep the earth good and healthy because it gives us plenty!
As well as working hard on the Biodiversity theme, the members of the committee are also responsible for maintaining standards of previous flags such as switching lights off when leaving the classroom, making sure taps were not running unnecessarily, continuing to motivate their peers to walk or cycle to school instead of driving. Scoil Íosgáin now have reusable water bottles so we are reducing waste, only drinking the water that we need and reusing!
Members have made posters and slogans that are placed all around the school to remind everyone of why it is important that we stay as green as possible in our school community.
The following Green Schools flags have been achieved and maintained:
- Litter and Waste
- Energy
- Water
- Travel
- Biodiversity
